The RINEX files are currently only written in version 3.03. The most recent version is RINEX 3.04 from December 2018. Although not part of the RINEX format, the Hatanaka compression scheme is commonly used to reduced the size of RINEX files, resulting in an ASCII-based CompactRINEX or CRINEX format.. It uses higher-order time differences to reduce the number of characters needed to store time data.
RINEX Version 3, currently under revision. Currently the most commonly used RINEX versions is RINEX 2.11 which allows to store pseudorange carrier-phase and Doppler measurements from GPS, GLONASS and also augmentation systems like EGNOS and WAAS in the same file.
